NJ Transit notice deadline
NJ Transit has to have your written notice of tort claim no later than 90 days after the accident. This rule comes from N.J.S.A. 59:8-8.
Time limit for filing a lawsuit
Your lawsuit must be filed within 2 years of the accident, and you can't file until NJ Transit has had the notice for 6 months. That time limit is set by N.J.S.A. 59:8-8(b).
Filing a claim with NJ Transit
According to New Jersey's Division of Risk Management, a claim about an NJ Transit train or bus doesn't go on the State Treasury portal. It belongs with NJ Transit itself. A claim against the State can also go to the Attorney General under the law. Use certified mail or hand delivery, and hold onto the proof. Official page.
