What day did it happen?
Pick the day it happened to get the Sound Transit deadline for your claim.
Sound Transit notice deadline
Your signed damages claim has to arrive at Sound Transit within 3 years after the injury occurred. This rule comes from RCW 4.96.020(2) and RCW 4.16.080(2).
There's no short notice window in Washington. The lawsuit and the Sound Transit claim share the same 3 years, but after claiming you must let 60 days pass before filing. It's safer to file the claim early.
Time limit for filing a lawsuit
You have 3 years for the lawsuit too; once the claim is in, 60 days must pass before suing. Those 60 days don't count against your deadline. That time limit is set by RCW 4.16.080(2).
